Coniston Primary School 2006
Our aim was to provide outdoor experience of local Landscape from lower fell to lakeshore. Gain some understanding of the different habitats & landscape, compare 3 or more sites including farmed one, basic plant and tree ID, individual reflective time

Site visited: Blawith common & lakeside

Activities
Activities prior to the site visit included an introductory talk and brainstorm, sketching plants and animals from FOF and keys. Playing the food web and tree-building games.

On site
Basic plant and tree Identification, use of simple quadrats (hoops), tree passport, observation points of contrasting habitats, sketching, listening activity, sharing findings.  .

Time
2.5 days 

Funding required:
Transport to site, FOF officer time and resource, school equipment


Learning outcomes:

Introduction to local habitats; basic id Children learnt to recognise certain types of plants & trees, structure and function of parts of a tree. Recap Food chains and interdependence, Sense Introduction to landscape and management. Drawing from real life. Explore and develop observation and listening skills, exploration of the area
