Our aim was to explore potential for delivering the John Muir Award through Flora of the Fells – A Pilot study with John Muir Trust and school to look at management of the countryside and the future of farming, in terms of FOF values as part of a Global / Local unit in Geography. Each class to study one site and present their findings to an audience
Activities In school: Introductory talk and Workshop Farming futures & discussion. On site (Each class visited one site) Site tour, Quadrats. Hedge and tree species ID. Listening & observation, Swot analysis in small groups. In school Research and preparation of presentations . Groups give their presentation on their findings to audience co- teachers, invited guests. Voting and comments on presentation Time 5 days Funding required: Transport for 2 sites. Officer time. Comment "Students gained a different perspective on the future use of the Fells. Plus a different voice for the pupils to listen to”. “We would like to become more involved with conservation work on the Fells with pupils”
