Climate change represents one of the most serious threats to people and the natural environment both globally and locally. Raising awareness of the potential impacts of climate change on the uplands of Cumbria is a key theme underpinning the Flora of the Fells project, its publications, education work and Flora of the Fells Festivals. The Mission Possible booklet published by the Flora of the Fells project in 2008 looks at some of the changes which might take place in Cumbria as a result of climate change. It looks at the impacts on our lakes, rivers, woodlands, wildlife and agriculture and offers some simple suggestions for how we can all act to make a difference. The impact of climate change on the flora and landscape of Cumbria’s uplands will be a major focus of the Flora of the Fells 2010 festival. Events and activities will highlight the links between climate change and the landscape, look at changes which are happening now and how we can all help play our part in reducing the impacts of our lifestyles on climate change.
