Volunteer
The Flora of the Fells project relies on the help of volunteers to run its programme of events and activities including festival events, conservation activities, farm visits and education projects.

Following the great success of our 2011 & 2012 Flora of the Fells 'Fell Care Days' we are running two more this autumn:

Borrowdale Fell Care Day - Thursday 17 October and
Grange over Sands Fell Care Day - Wednesday 13 November (in partnership with the Morecambe Bay Limestones and Wetlands Nature Improvement Area Project)

You can join in a range of practical conservation activities to help look after our fantastic Lake District landscape and help raise awareness of the huge amount of work that volunteers do in caring for the fells. Activities will include footpath work, drain clearance, coppicing and woodland work, walling and surveying. We will have a task to suit most volunteers, whatever their age, fitness or mobility. (Under 16s must be accompanied).

It's free to take part.
If you would like to find out more about volunteering opportunities associated with Flora of the Fells Fell Care Days or events look here.

2011 Fell Care Days at Helvellyn and Ennerdale involved 200 volunteers undertaking 13 practical tasks, achieving the equivalent of 145 days work in just two days. Professional photographer Rob Grange gave a day of his time to make a short film about the 2011 Ennerdale Fell Care day which you can see here.
2012 Fell Care Days at Ullswater and Windermere involved 240 adults and 251 children doing 275 days work on 21 practical tasks in just 2 days. You can see Stephen Lockwood's video of the day here.

Friends of the Lake District also has other opportunities for practical conservation, events and administrative volunteering please look here.
