Flora Fell Care Pledges - Take Action Today!
Why Pledge? Flora of the Fells is encouraging people and businesses to take action to support the uplands by pledging to Conserve natural resources or by Joining, Donating or Volunteering to support the work of environmental organisations.
What Have The Fells Ever Done For Us? Although we're not all lucky enough to live near the fells the uplands are a vital resource for us all. They provide many benefits including important wildlife habitats, food, fuel, jobs, healthy recreational opportunities and inspirational landscapes to get away from it all. Their sponge like peat soils lock up millions of tonnes of carbon, absorb and filter rain to provide clean water and help control flooding.
Threats to the Fells Our upland fells are under threat from the impacts of climate change and human activity. Hotter, drier summers, warmer winters and more extreme storms will lead to increased flooding and soil erosion. This will release stored carbon and the eroded soils will silt up rivers and lakes damaging their water quality. Cold loving mountain top plants and flowers will be pushed out by species which thrive in the warmer climes - but we can all pledge action to help...........
Your Pledges will make a difference by supporting the Flora of the Fells project and the job of conserving the fells and uplands. By taking action to conserve resources to reduce your carbon footprint you will be helping to reduce the impacts of climate change on the uplands.
